<청춘극장>은 어르신들이 주로 이용하는 노래방 주점을 일종의 이미지 변환 시스템으로 재구성한 작업이다. 공간이 지닌 고유한 시간성과 다른 연령대의 관객이 진입하며 느끼는 이질감은 작업의 바탕 조건이 된다. 관객이 노래를 부르면, 시스템은 노래하는 현재의 몸 위에 얼굴만 젊어진 이미지를 실시간으로 중첩시킨다. 몸과 목소리, 공간은 그대로 남아 있지만, 얼굴만 다른 시간의 이미지로 이동하며 화면 안에 불완전한 시간차가 발생한다.
노래방 모니터에는 이 젊어진 얼굴과 함께 AI로 생성된 비현실적인 자연 풍경이 나타난다. 기억을 호출하는 노래, 현재에 남아 있는 신체, 인공적으로 생성된 젊음과 풍경은 서로 매끄럽게 결합되지 않고 어긋난다. <청춘극장>은 기억이라는 인간의 행위가 기술적 이미지 변환을 통과할 때, 그것이 공간의 맥락과 충돌하며 어떻게 낯설고 이질적인 조형적 풍경으로 전환되는지를 보여준다.
<Youth Theater> reconfigures a karaoke bar mainly frequented by elderly patrons as a kind of image-conversion system. The space’s own temporality, along with the sense of estrangement felt when viewers from a different generation enter it, becomes a basic condition of the work. When a participant sings, the system overlays only a rejuvenated face in real time onto the present body that is singing. The body, voice, and space remain as they are, while the face alone shifts into an image from another time, producing an incomplete temporal disjunction within the screen.
On the karaoke monitor, this rejuvenated face appears together with surreal natural landscapes generated by AI. The song that calls up memory, the body that remains in the present, and the artificially produced youth and landscape do not merge seamlessly, but instead remain misaligned. <Youth Theater> shows how the human act of memory, once passed through technological image conversion, collides with the context of a space and is transformed into a strange and heterogeneous sculptural landscape.
